Sprint HTC Evo 3D, HTC Evo View 4G: Hoping 3D, 4G Conquer All

Sprint is betting big that consumers will continue to gravitate toward viewing their multimedia in three dimensions, with an upcoming tablet and smartphone that allow users to shoot and watch content in 3D without special glasses. Unveiled in a high-profile presentation at this year's CTIA Wireless 2011 show in Orlando, Fla., the HTC Evo View 4G (the tablet) and HTC Evo 3D (the phone) represent Sprint's next big chance at not only carving a separate market niche from its Android-based competitors, but also convincing consumers and businesses that the carrier will continue to be a viable competitor in the wake of AT&T's just-announced intention to acquire T-Mobile. The HTC Evo 3D runs on Google Android 2.3 ("Gingerbread") and utilizes a 4.3-inch display for multimedia content. Its 1.2GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor is expected to support the creation and viewing of 3D images and video with nary a hitch. On the larger side of the mobile equation, the HTC Evo View 4G offers blazing speed and 3D technology in a 7-inch package, powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor. For students and others who rely heavily on writing and scribbling, though, the HTC Evo View 4G's main selling point could be the HTC Scribe digital pen, which enables users to draw and mark a document or Web page to their heart's content. In a short demo following the presentation at CTIA, Sprint representatives showed off the pen's ability to highlight documents, circle and notate parts of Web pages, and even switch colors. - ...
